On Tuesday I posted this on Twitter.
Why Bill Nye “The Science Guy”?
Because he is the most prominent opponent of fossil fuels that has shown any inclination to debate.
My top 2 dream debates are Al Gore (whom I have offered $100,000) and Elon Musk (who blocked me from Twitter for asking a few tough questions).
Bill Nye, on the other hand, is occasionally willing to debate opponents on TV, at least for a few minutes. And I believe I could do a lot of good by making an example out of him.
For the last several years, Bill Nye “The Science Guy” has been one of the top 10 public attackers of fossil fuels. Next month on Netflix he will release a show “Bill Nye Saves the World”…and you can guess he will be “saving” it from fossil fuels. He has millions of social media followers, many of whom have associated him with scientific thinking since they were in grade school. And I get lots of social media requests to address the things he says.
If Nye‘s followers and their networks are made aware of a live event or recording in which Nye’s position is shown to be unscientific (and immoral) and are exposed to a pro-human, big picture way of thinking about fossil fuels, it could create a measurable shift in how the youth view fossil fuels.
Here are a few messages that have already been posted to Bill Nye on Facebook.
“Bill, your shows probably sparked my first inclinations into what science is and how it can be used to benefit us all. And your work has inspired millions of kids just like me.
As I’ve grown up I’ve come to understand that science often gets politicized in very nasty ways. It can be hard for people to see through today’s rhetoric; I hope you’ll take Alex Epstein’s debate offer. For me and many others, it would speak directly to your nobility and good character to see you publicly debate yours and Alex Epstein’s positions on the morality of using fossil fuels.
I really hope you take his offer, it would likely inspire more of us — just like your original shows — to dig into scientific matters for ourselves; thereby spreading the beauty of scientific inquiry from which we all so wonderfully benefit.”
“My man Alex Epstein has challenged you to a debate on the morality of fossil fuels. Make that happen.”
“Hi Bill Nye The Science Guy, will you debate my brilliant pal, Alex Epstein on The Moral Case For Fossil Fuels? Venue can be any major university; Alex will handle logistics. Let’s educate and enlighten!”
“The one thing that you need to do in 2017 is to debate Alex Epstein.”
“Im a life long fan. Thank you Bill Nye The Science Guy for all your efforts to help keep children like myself from the inner city interested with science.
I’d love to see you debate the moral case for fossil fuels with another person I live to follow Alex Epstein. It would be very great for all of us fans. Thanks!”
“You should debate Alex Epstein on the energy topic. A debate between the two of you would be much more intellectually pleasing than the cakewalk you had with Ken Ham. Alex has a lot of interesting points to make about why it is morally good to utilize specific types of energy. It seems like Bill Nye The Science Guy would rather focus on environmental impact over human prosperity. But anyway, A debate between the two of you would be fantastic.”
Thanks to everyone who has or will chime in!
